NEWS RELEASE

Port Louis:  The Information and Communication Technologies Authority has approved a list of technical standards for telecommunication networks and the connection of customer equipment to telecommunication networks.

These technical standards have been determined based upon those established through various international standardisation bodies such as the European Telecommunications Standards Institute  (ETSI) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

The list of technical standards have been established to inter alia ensure:

1.   the safety of the public and users in general
2.   efficient use of the radio spectrum
3.   electromagnetic compatibility

Given that all equipment listed need to be type approved, the established standards will enable applicants to check the required compliance of the equipment they propose to either commercialise or use prior to applying for a type approval or a licence  from the Authority or even before importing the  equipment.

The comprehensive list of established technical standards which amongst other inlcude equipment such as mobile phones,  cordless phones, walkie-talkie and marine radios can be viewed on the website of the Authority http://www.icta.mu.
