Re: ICT Authority to Meet the Press on
and Information Society Day
Port Louis: The Information and Communication Technologies Authority has received a prestigious international award for “Excellence in ICT Regulation for Licensing, Certification, Spectrum and other Resources”. The award was bestowed during the 7th (National Telecommunications Awards) NTA ICT World Communication Awards held in New Delhi on 7th May 2013.
The ICT Authority considers that the award once more testifies to the recognition of the transparency of procedures and decision-making in licensing matters, spectrum management; cyber-security; market development and consumer protection.
An official presentation of the award will be made to the press on World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) at 15.00 hrs on Friday 17 May 2013, at the seat of the ICT Authority, Level 12, The Celicourt, 6, Sir Celicourt, Antelme Street, Port Louis.
On this occasion the ICT Authority will meet the media. Honourable Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrum, Minister of Information and Communication Technology will be in attendance.
It is also recognition of the world class standard of ICTA’s approach to ICT regulation and illustrates the Authority’s contribution in helping to build a more positive image of the regulatory framework in place in Mauritius.
The Communication Multimedia Association (CMAI) of India is the Apex body which promotes the growth in communications, manufacturing and technology in India. The association hosted the awards ceremony held in the presence of the Indian ministers, Honourable Kapil Sibal, Union Minister for Communications and IT; Honourable Farooq Abdullah, Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Honourable Mukul Sangma, Chief Minister, Meghalaya.
Other eminent personalities present were Professor Tim Unwin, the CEO of the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisation; Dr Hamadoun Toure, the Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and Mr S. S. Mantha, the Chairman All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
The award ceremony was one of the events staged during the Global ICT Forum held from 6th to 8th May organised by the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisation in partnership with the CMAI and the ITU. The theme for the Forum was Innovations to Drive Emerging Economies. The event showcased the latest research, products, services and processes emerging from India.
The ICTA was also bestowed with Honorary membership of the CMAI Association of India by the CMAI president N. K. Goyal.
